STAGE 2 FIRE RESTICTIONS ARE IN EFFECT!!

VERY HIGH - Fires start very easily and spread at a very fast rate. Fires start easily from all causes, spread rapidly and intensify quickly. Spot fires are a constant danger. Fires burning in heavy fuels may quickly develop high-intensity characteristics, such as long-distance spotting and fire whirlwinds. Direct attack at the head of such fires is rarely possible after they have been burning more than a few minutes.

STAGE 2

Effective June 26th, 2026, Grand County is under Stage Two Fire Restrictions. The Grand County Sheriff’s Office, in cooperation with local Fire Districts and Federal Partners, consistently monitors fire conditions and the necessity of fire restrictions on a regular basis. The decisions surrounding fire restrictions are based on a scientific fire restriction matrix that is used across northwest Colorado. Upon reviewing the latest scientific data, Sheriff Brett Schroetlin recommended, and the Board of County Commissioners approved, the implementation of Stage Two Fire Restrictions

The following acts are prohibited under Stage 2 restrictions:

• Building, maintaining, attending, or using an open fire (including charcoal grills), either in a campground or at a private residence. No outdoor fires unless it is gas and can be turned off (propane fire pits are permitted).
• The possession, use and sale of permissible fireworks. Only permitted, professional fireworks displays are allowed. It is the decision of the local jurisdiction to host a fireworks display.
• Operating welding equipment or operating acetylene torches or other torches with an open flame.
• The use of incendiary devices such as explosives, exploding or tracer ammunition, exploding targets, or rockets.
• Smoking, except within an enclosed vehicle or building. Dispose of smoking materials in places where they cannot be a source of ignition. Never throw them from car windows.
• Operating a chainsaw without an USDA or SAE approved spark-arresting device properly installed and in working order. 

A violation of Grand County Fire Restrictions is punishable by a $1,000.00 fine for each separate offense.

The following are allowed under Stage 2 restrictions:

• Permissible fireworks according to state statute. The permitted, professional fireworks displays in Grand County are allowed.
• Liquid or gas-fueled appliances: heating devices, stoves, grills, lanterns, fire pits, fireplaces or fire tables that include shut-off valves are permitted when used in an area at least three or more feet from flammable materials such as grasses or pine needles.
• Fires contained inside permanent structures: Any fire contained within a fireplace, stove, wood burning stove, or pellet stove designed for and located within a fully enclosed permanent structure.

Hot Sulphur Springs/Parshall Fire wins county wide chili throwdown!

Annual Chili Dinner

NOVEMBER 15TH FROM 6-9 PM

HOT SULPHUR DAYS WAS AWESOME!

The 60th annual event was such a great time! The crew was exhasted by the end of our part of it but it all went off without a hitch! Our On Duty crew started that Saturday  by responding to a gas call at 130am (OY VEY) and up at 0600 to start prepping for the always popular FireFighter pancake and bacon breakfast. After a quick cleanup they participated in the town parade, followed by the touch a truck event. LT Russell arranged the MedEvac helicopter to make a landing at the event and the community had the chance to look at the bird and talk with the flight crew. It was great! The post office, GCEMS, Search and Rescue and the fire department participated in the event. Then the big moment, we unvelived our brand new inflatable obstacle course for all t​​he kids. It was a huge success and the kids were all smiles racing through it. The night was capped off by your fire crew becomming pyrotechnitions and putting on the fireworks display to cap off that Saturday.  We want to Thank all of you that attended and a BIG shoutoout to Search and Rescue, GC EMS, Postal service, Sherrifs Office and the AMAZING flight crew from MedEvac for making this event even better! Another huge shout out to the Firefighters: Baumgarten, Calhoun, Conger, Dixon, Hicks, Martin and Russell, and thier families for all the hours you put in that day.       See you all next year!

ANNUAL APPRECIATION DINNER WAS HELD ON JANUARY 24, 2025

Thank you to all our volunteer firefighters, thier families and our volunteer board. The Chiefs award was awarded to Reserve Captain Bill Dixon for not only 60 years of service, but continuing to make a positive impact on the department and the community we serve. Most incident responce from the volunteer side was:

We look forward to progressing and growing. Main goal in 2025 is to try and get more volunteer firefighters. This is a necessary step to make sure our district is protected to the best of our ability.

CDFPC MLFTU ARRIVED

CDFPC Mobile Live Fire Training Unit is here! Crews will be doing live fire evolutions, roof operations, search & rescue and fire control drills. We have the trailer from August 20-25th. We thank the Colorado Division of Fire Prevention and Control and the Regional Training Officers for the opportunity to sharpen our crews skill sets.
